In honor of Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black President, who dedicated his life to fighting the brutal system of apartheid, July 18th is a global call to action, encouraging 67 minutes of community service.

South Africans commemorate Mandela Day by performing acts of kindness and are encouraged to volunteer their time to make a positive difference.
While primarily aimed at South Africans, everyone is welcome to participate. This July, various organizations are providing opportunities to help realize Mandela's vision.
Mandela Day Walk & Run 2025

On July 19th, the Nelson Mandela Foundation will host a Mandela Day Walk & Run at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Coinciding with South Africa's 30th year of democracy, all proceeds will support initiatives that combat poverty and inequality.
If you would like to participate from anywhere in the world, the initiative allows you to join virtually.
The public is encouraged to participate and help promote active living and social justice.

Nelson Mandela Build Initiative

Habitat for Humanity South Africa invites volunteers to participate in its Nelson Mandela Build Initiative. From July 14 to 18, members of the public can volunteer to build homes for vulnerable families, contributing either 67 minutes or a full day—no experience needed.
To support the event's initiative, you can make a donation or become a corporate sponsor. The organisation's goal is to build 670 homes annually.

Adopt-A-School Foundation

The Adopt-A-School Foundation is inviting members of society to participate in its Back-to-School for Mandela Campaign. The programme is expected to facilitate programmes across different Schools in Soweto. Available activities include:
· Eyesight testing
· Painting of play areas and netball courts
· Snack packing
All activities begin at 9:30 am on July 18th.

Madiba Buggy Initiative

Edenvale-based non-profit organization Little Eden calls on the public to help build and refurbish buggies for children living with intellectual and physical disabilities. These mobility aids provide residents with movement, freedom, dignity, and comfort.
Participants can support the initiative by donating R67, R670, R6,700, or any amount or volunteer 67 minutes at the home to assist with activities or spend time with residents.

Ladles of Love

Ladles of Love invites parents and scholars to Cape Town's DHL Stadium or Johannesburg's Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit to help create items that nourish and support preschoolers in need. These include prepping sandwiches, designing posters and colouring books, making cushions and toys, as well as planting edible garden kits. The non-profit organization provides wholesome food to vulnerable individuals, primarily children, and supports urban farmers to grow natural, healthy food.
Tickets start from R250. Volunteers can sign up for time slots between 9 am and 5 pm South African time.
