Former Mali PM under investigation for embezzlement
Choguel Maïga, the former Prime Minister of Mali, is under investigation for the alleged misuse of public funds during his time in office.

Allegations arose after the country's auditor general submitted documents to the Supreme Court, accusing the former premier of irregularities and suspected embezzlement of public funds.
Mali's Attorney General is reportedly reviewing the case, which could trigger a formal investigation and possibly a lawsuit against Maïga. Sources say he may be summoned for questioning.
The justice system is investigating the former PM’s office over the alleged misuse of nearly 2 billion CFA francs (approximately $3.3 million).
Maïga faces two counts of investigation: the first relates to financial expenses during a building inauguration ceremony during his time in power, and the second concerns over $50,000 in unduly allocated travel expenses, according to the Auditor General's office.
Speaking to Radio France International (RFI), a source close to the case asserted that "No one is above the law," adding that "to uncover the truth, Choguel Maïga could therefore be heard quickly."
Maïga has been a fierce critic of the military junta government that toppled the previous regime of Bah Ndaw.
Maïga has been calling for the end of the military rule and for elections to be held to elect a civilian president. The country has been under military rule following two successive coups in 2020 and 2021.
