Basotho youths have reportedly been recruited and offered training, amid false terrorism claims. Commissioner of police Barotho Matsoso has described the situation as a growing national threat that needs urgent attention.

He accused the Malata Naha group of human trafficking, labelling their actions as an act of rebellion against the Lesotho government. "What is alarming is their complete disrespect and public ridicule of the royal family and His Majesty the King, using offensive and vulgar language," he said. "These activities not only violate our national laws but threaten to destabilise peace, security, and diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries, especially South Africa." Matsotso also revealed that several members of parliament, religious leaders and other prominent individuals are involved in the running of these illegal camps.

Most of the camps are allegedly located in the Free State province, with an attempt also being made to establish another one in the Eastern Cape. Although there's currently no evidence to support these claims, the Lesotho government anticipates finalizing an investigation within the next two weeks.

South African authorities have remained silent on the matter, with the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation outrightly declining to comment. According to Lesotho's newspaper, The Post, however, South Africa's spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has noted the media report and is establishing a task team to look into the matter.
