Mercedes-Benz to establish truck assembly plant in Senegal
Daimler Truck, a division of Mercedes-Benz, has announced plans to establish a truck assembly plant in Senegal, marking a significant boost for West Africa's automotive sector.

In a July 2, 2025, press release, the company said the project aims to spur economic growth, generate jobs, expand vocational training, and supply vehicles to both government and private sector clients.
Further highlighted in the press release is the fact that the Senegalese government has signed a letter of intent for the new plant's establishment alongside local partner Global Truck Systems (GTS) and Daimler Truck. As per the signed statement of intent, Daimler Truck will only deliver the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits, which are disassembled vehicle parts for local assembly.
In a joint venture, the Senegalese government and GTS will manage the entire project.
Military vehicle production for the Senegalese Ministry of Defence is expected to commence as early as 2026. Additionally, the vehicles will assist the fire and police departments in modernizing their fleets. Following the initial supply of state trucks, the assembly factory plans to diversify its production to include trucks for civilian use, particularly for waste collection and vehicles used in other sectors like construction, logistics, and transportation.
Franziska Cusumano, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, said the company's provision of CKD kits for on-site assembly, along with technical support and expert guidance, reflects its commitment to building a strong, partnership-driven collaboration.
The initiative aligns with Senegal's broader strategy for industrialization and job creation, while fostering local expertise in vehicle assembly and maintenance. By prioritizing local production over imports, Mercedes-Benz aims to lay the groundwork for a regional automotive manufacturing hub.
