Namibia launches financial inclusion drive to empower citizens
Despite financial inclusion being vital to long-term economic growth, many Namibians remain excluded from formal financial markets and services.

In response, the Bank of Namibia has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at boosting consumer protection, improving financial literacy, and ensuring fair access to banking services.
The month-long Financial Inclusion Awareness Campaign, which began on August 5, 2025, will run across both urban and rural areas of the country. According to the Bank's official X account, the campaign aims to bridge the financial divide by educating the public on how to access services for legitimate business endeavors and empowering all community members to do so.
In a statement at the campaign launch, Ebson Uanguta, the Bank of Namibia's deputy governor, said, "You cannot have true monetary stability without everybody making meaningful economic contributions." He added that the Bank has long been committed to financial services access, with the primary challenge being to ensure such access fosters genuine economic activity.
Uanguta emphasized that consumer protection, financial knowledge, and access to financial services are the three interconnected pillars of financial inclusion. Through community engagement initiatives, media campaigns, and educational opportunities, the campaign is being translated into multiple local languages to guarantee access and relevance.
Regardless of geographical limitations or language barriers, this is essential to ensure the engagement of Namibia's diverse population. Namibia is getting ready to host the Alliance for Financial Inclusion Global Policy Forum in Swakopmund later this year, so this campaign is well-timed. This campaign further solidifies Namibia's position as a regional leader in promoting inclusive finance.
